An issue has arisen that I would like to better understand:
Many of us watch certain movies over and over again -- some of us reread
books we enjoyed. Then some people repeat tales of past tragedies in
their lives sometimes replete with tears and depression (and often
sucking into similar depression those to whom the stories are told/
retold).
So the question is, is the basis for re-watching/re-reading entertaining
movies/books the same as the basis for re-living past injustices/
tradegies? That is, is the recollection of misery likely to be
entertaining to those who do it, or is there some other factor at work
-- and if so what might it be?
There is a related question -- what is it that makes some of us enjoy
re-watching/re-reading while others have no interest whatsoever in
repeat performances even of media enjoyed the first time.
Any insight on the questions directly OR direction to a source for
exploring these answers will be greatly appreciated.
