Hi All

When I read the message out to Chris, my OH, I got the same response as Agnes!

Proves men (some of them) do know what they are on about. The computer shop guy obviously thought he'd make extra money out of your sister.

Hello Malvary and others interested: below my son's response.
Hope it makes some sense.

Forward this on:
Well the reformat every 6months idea is total BS, a reformat/software
rebuild is only ever required when either an operating system has become
corrupted in some way and cannot be recovered, a hard disk containing
the system has been partially damaged or if the user simply wants to
reformat to get rid of rubbish on the machine rather then go through and
manually remove all of it. Assuming the actual problem is not due to
hardware (it may be) then a sleep setting may be the cause, but this can
be changed easily (google windows sleep settings, or windows power
saving settings or something similar). Only other possibility is some
malicious software or software conflict, this is hard to identify
however but can be determined by running the computer in safe mode for a while to see if it falls over or not (google windows safe mode), as safe mode runs the operating system and not a lot else, so a software problem
should not occur if this is indeed the cause. That computer shop guy
seems to be trying to make a quick buck though from what I can tell.

Hope something here helps; good luck.
