Agnes, I wouldn't be so sure it does cover you for teaching in your own home.... also the certificate only lasts for 3 years and then has to be done again! I was CRB checked just under 3 years ago for cleaning in the community centre (where I came into contact with.... the other cleaner who is older than I am!! I then had to be enhanced CRB checked separately for the School crossing patrol, and the school needed the number of the certificate AND the expiry date! Also, I'm on the Management Committee of the Community Centre soooo, you guessed it.... I had to be CRB checked for that too!

Another friend of mine (not Agnes) is a teacher, she goes to different schools in the York area, and to people's homes... she has been checked for EACH school and for the charity she works for too! As Agnes says, the country has gone completely crazy!

My advice to you Carol would be to write to your MP at the House of Commons and ask them! They are legally obliged to reply to you and you may get a definite ruling on the situation!!

contracted by our local College.
I had to be checked to teach adults at the local ferry company (ridiculous), and the college (for whom I worked for 14 years) paid for it, which luckily covers me for now for teaching mainly teenagers in my/ their home.
