I managed to lose the digest into the trash file that had most of the messages about the "walking book" so maybe it is having its effect on my computer. Came across the digest when looking for a mail I knew I had trashed. I always, always put the book back on the same shelf at the very end, in front of the small booklets, that way I always know where it is these days. (chest swelling with pride) It did used to go walkies when I first got it but I think I have tamed it into staying put now. I imagine Brenda is very pleased to hear how we all adore the book so much, even at the lace day today I dragged someone over to the Lacemaker stand to show her how to use it to compare threads. Forgot to take my copy with me but then I knew I was not looking to compare threads as I knew exactly what I needed. Wouldn't you know it, nobody had them in stock!!
Regards the SMP nylon winder that was mentioned in the same digest, I bought mine on my first trip to the NEC in England in 1994 when I first started lacemaking and I have loved it since. In the days before I learnt how to use a pin and a thread to wind bobbins (thanks Gwen), I used to carry it to convention in the box it came in which was stuffed with my pin cushions and bobbins as well. It is so lightweight and I can clamp it to my lace table for winding. I still use it at home for winding on lots of thread although the rubber clamps are looking a little worse for wear these days. I use it on all types of bobbins even spangled ones. I tuck the spangles into the inside of the cage and have never had a problem with them. I love the book and winder, can't say fairer than that.
