Perhaps someone who knows can chime in on this - is the one SMP carries the *same* black nylon bobbin winder that Newnham's used to sell or did they make their own when Newnham's went out of business? Mine was bought from Newnham's 20 years ago (!) and is still in great condition. The rubber grips started to come off just last week at the PNWC conference, but they haven't disintegrated yet and I can stick them back on again. By the way, when I bought it I was told that if anything ever bent on it, it would regain its shape by putting it in hot water, just as you do to remove the kinks from circular knitting needles. I never thought I'd use that bit of information, but the winder went walkabout and got lost in my junk ... er... crafts room, and when I unearthed it I found the clamping arms had been lodged under a book and had bent over time. I plunged it into hot (not boiling) water and the bent arm went right back to its original shape. -- Adele North Vancouver, B.C.
