It actually works. And it's important to keep the pillow as flat as possible so that gravity doesn't work against you. I use "Ultra-Suede", which is a man-made alternative to suede. This is very soft and supple and has no loose "stuff" to get caught in the lace threads. I get it at a fabric store which sells bolt-ends of upholstery and drapery material. Usually Ultra-Suede is quite expensive ($45 a yard?), but I get end-bolts for $10 per yard and can get a number of work cloths from one yard. They make wonderful gifts to lacemaker friends!
