Many years ago, long before I thought of lacemaking, I decided to try my
hand at filet lace - it looks more interesting and less bulky than filet
crochet. Being young and impatient, I found a filet doily and removed the
darning. I didn't want to "waste" time making the net. Turned out to be the
right thing to do because I was completely hopeless at making a design that
looked anything like neat, and I've never tried it again. I was satisfied
that I'd had a go, but I'd have been really miffed if I'd spent time making
the net as well.
