Hello Everyone, I am one of those members of the list who usually keep quiet, but in April 1999 I asked help from Arachne members to convince a Finnish publisher to publish a book about Nyytinki lace (traditional Finnish free hand lace).
I received a good amount of emails where people told about their interest in the book, but unfortunately the publisher did not publish the book. After a long search for a publisher and after problems with the printing process the book has now finally been published. I have no idea how many of those who were interested are still on list, but since I promised to tell you if it is ever published, I decided to write this email to the list. Hopefully nobody feels offended about this. I have no economical interest on this book and just want to give you information. I have not seen the book yet, so can not review it, but here is all I know for those who are interested. Title of the book is "Nyytinki". It is made by Inga Pentikinen and Irma Leimulahti and published by Barbara Fay. It is written in four languages (my quess: Finnish, Swedish, English and German). As I wrote years ago, at the time of asking for your help, both Inga and Irma have searched and collected old Nyytinki patterns for a long time and have valuable infomation that has not been published before and since they are both eldery ladies this was about the time to get the information for younger generations to read and study before it is totally gone. I also mentioned that Leena Hokkanen (who has written a Nyytinki book earlier) is involved with this project and she is. I do not know if there is anything from her in the book, since her name is not mentioned amongst the authors, but she was at least the contact person between authors and the publisher. (I got the information about the book from her and she is known as a person who do not speek loud about herself.) Since the publisher is Barbara Fay there should not be any problems getting this book through normal suppliers, I think. I am delighted to get this kind of news during a boring workind day. I hope to get my copy of the book during the annual convention of the Finnish national Lace Association in mid March. Happy lacing!
