This is what I do for a travel pillow or a display pillow. I also use
interesting pins, when I can. It can be time consuming, but so pretty
Short story on myself...when I started lacing, BC...before
computers...having only books, few tho' they were, I kept reading about a
"yarn tie" for holding bobbins at rest. I can hardly remember how many ways I
tried to devise a "yarn tie".....lots and lots ...until one day I saw a
picture and my 'lace light bulb' flashed once more.

Re-member I lived in rural Louisiana, and one knew what I was trying to
do.....I did not know what I was trying to do!!!!!! No IOLI, had never
seen lace being made, no computers and until about 1979 not one single lace
friend. Then I met Doris Southard and my whole world changed.....Thanks Doris
;-)

Then there's the prettiest method for securing bobbins--use a long piece of
ribbon. Fold it in half and put the first bobbin against the fold. Twist
the two halves and put in the next bobbin. Twist again between every
bobbin. When you get to the end, tie a pretty bow and pin the whole affair
down at both ends (and intermediate points, if you want). You can have
ribbons that match your pillow and/or accessories, and ribbons to
coordinate
with your projects if you work in color a lot. Very decorative, and it
  works for Midlands and Continentals.
