That sounds very much like the problems I had a couple of weeks ago,
and seems to happen from time to time with AOL.
The cause of the problem seems to be that AOL turn their spam filters
up so high that legitimate postings get rejected. Surely not what
their customers want.
The guy that runs Orpheus/appleshack had some very uncomplimentary
things to say about AOL, but in the end it was him forwarding my
rejection messages to his sysadmin that got the problem sorted for me.
At one point he couldn't contact AOL (even if they would have taken any
notice) either from his own ISP, or even from his back-up account with
Demon!
