Yes, it would make sense for the relay to start in New
Zealand/Australia and work it's way around the world, hopefully
ending up in Hawaii however many hours later, however, as far as I
can tell, we go from about Australia(+8) to Estonia (+2) with nothing
in between. Using a useful back-of-an-envelope to work things out
and assuming that the US/Canada is an average of 6 hours behind the
UK and Australia/NZ are 10 hours ahead of the UK and that there are
enough early birds/night owls to ignore silly things like summer time :o)
Ah, I can't explain it knowing that the list is liking to make a mess
out of every bit of formatting I try to use. Have a look here and
see if it makes any
sense. http://people.bath.ac.uk/ns3hmt/lace-in_timezones.pdf
Basically, the US and Australia can start (evening and morning
respectively), the US goes to bed, the UK wakes up and starts lacing,
Eventually, Australia goes to bed and the US wakes up, leaving the UK
and the US to lace through evening and morning before the lace-in
finishes at 12 midnight again.
Am I making any sense? I know I've spent long enough getting this
straight in my mind that I've just found half a lukewarm cup of
coffee that I'd forgotten I'd even made!
