Typically, the scale of the figures to the houses is way
off...  so the lacemaker will be much larger in scale.
Don't know why they do that.

My first thought was egyptian perspective -- where things that are more important, rather than things that are closer, are depicted larger.

On looking at the picture, I see that if the figure were in proportion to the house, it would be too small to see clearly. If the house were in proportion to the figure, it would be far too large to use as an ornament.
