A google search gives all sorts of links to various aspects of the TCC at
Southampton.

One gives the centre the following write up:
"The Textile Conservation Centre is the leading international organisation in
the field of textile conservation research, education and practice. Its work
has now broadened to respond to the dynamic social and intellectual challenges
of the heritage sector, both nationally and internationally.

Students of conservation, conservation science and museums & galleries study
alongside each other, so building a mutual understanding of the wider sector
in which they will work. High quality teaching, offered by some of the best
practitioners in their fields, draws students to the Centre from around the
world."

It appears that it is not so very long ago that this centre was formed when
the TCC moved from Hampton Court to a purpose-designed building at the
university. Now we have all heard of Hampton Court and have a vague idea of
what
used to go on there (re textiles and embroidery, not Henry VIII and his
unfortunate wives!) so that made your ears prick up, and perhaps has
reinforced the
seriousness of this potential closure. What a waste of already invested
funds,
experience and expertise that would be. But are we in the UK surprised?
Probably not. I wonder sometimes if they try to sneak in these closures and
see
which ones they think they can get away with. Don't let it be this one.

May I suggest that anyone who is concerned spends a few minutes having a
look, and maybe posting links or snippets of interest.

Once more, bye for now and thanks for your patience with my multiple posts.
