Sister Claire
It's not whether a book is out of print; it's whether or not it is out of copyright that matters. In UK copyright lasts until 70 years after the death of the author, so if a book or pattern is published by a young author copyright could remain with the author/designer for 150 years or more. I think all the EC countries have similar copyright laws.

I would have to check, but I believe I have some very old lace patterns with Christian and liturgical themes (edgings and insertions for altar cloths,
vestments, etc.). If the books are still in my collection, they are in
French. I'd be glad to share patterns if it is legal and if the French isn't
a problem.

What is the law about sharing patterns from books that are out of print?

Thanks,
