WHAT TO DO WITH THE WORKER AND MATE

Nothing. I use Christine Springett's method for making leaves/ tallies - slow but sure - and the weaving is so tight that you don't
have to do anything at the end. I've even packed my pillow in my
suitcase with several leaves made but the unknotted ends not yet
worked into the lace, checked the luggage for a 6 hour flight, and
when I've unpacked at home, the leaves were still perfect. And it
wasn't a fluke - I've done it more than once!

Margot, I am with you. Also having had the benefit of learning leaves from Christine and even though my hands are as small as hers are large, I have managed to get my leaves respectable. Oddly I learned how to weave leaves first for Cluny tatting.

I always say this: A leaf will stay a leaf if there is enough thread in it! A leaf will hold its shape when it can't do anything else!
