Dear Irish Crochet History Experts, The writer of a letter to me says she is trying to uncover the name of an English or Irish lady who started an Embroidery School in Anghiari, near Lake Trasimeno, Tuscany, during the first years of the 20th century.
She thinks there was an Irish colony in Anghiari, and finding the name may lead to a connection between Irish Crochet Lace and Tuscany, Italy. Someone has already complicated the issue by telling her it was English ladies trying to start a Irish Lace cottage industry. "Early 20th century" does not conect with what I know of Irish Crochet. The letter to me contained attached comments from 3 embroidery teachers trying to help her. All 3 are experts, but they seem to have done more to confuse! If a book contains this information, please provide Author's name,Title, year published, etc., so I can give her enough data to order it from Interlibrary Loan.
