I wonder how many of the non-chat subscribers have the wrong impression
and imagine that there is a lot of chatter on lace-chat? Most days
recently there has been less than on the main list, other than the odd
thing that has been cross-posted. A look at the archives, as Avital has
suggested, may change a few minds about subscribing to it, and help to
keep the non-lace chatter off the main list.
The reason the list was split in the first place was to give those who
wanted to read travel stories, recipes, (clean) jokes, etc somewhere to
do so, without incurring the wrath of those who wanted to read lace and
nothing else - this was back around 1997 or so.... Neither list has been
overloaded with posts since that time, despite there being ?over 1,000
of us!
Back on topic, I already have Bridget Cook's Practical Skills, and
various Technique of .... books. For the weekend when I take my class to
Pendrell Hall (an adult residential college in the English West
Midlands) I am planning to look at various ways of starting Torchon lace
patterns (ie where to hang pairs in) This is something I've been doing
without needing books for years but for further research I wondered if
anyone knows of any not-so-well-known books (there are a couple of
obvious ones which I do know about!) that may be interesting to refer
to. If available, I plan to borrow them from The Lace Guild's library,
so it doesn't matter if they are out of print.
