May I add that the lacemakers who are awarded MBEs get them because a group of their students has put them forward for the award. Unfortunately it is not because they are sooooo famous that even the Queen or Prime Minister has heard of them.
I know of one UK teacher whose nose was a little out-of-joint when one of the other four was awarded hers, but all it means is that her friends/students haven't thought to put her forward for the award, not that she is any less of a contributor to the lacemaking community.
