Hi Jean > a blog from someone who had the same questions as I in 2008. Anyone who's > interested in what she found out: > > http://patternsalacarte.blogspot.com/2008/09/so-what-is-purse-twist-anyway.html
The close up of the Corticelli label shows that it's 1/2 ounce - 150 yards. Assuming that it is 3 ply - there's a total of 450 yards of singles thread per 1/2 ounce = 900 yards per 1 oz = 14400 yards per lb Cotton count (CC) is the number of 840 yard hanks obtained from 1 lb. 14400 / 840 = 17.1428 so on the CC system it's a 17/3 thread (similar amount of fibres per inch to a 12/2 thread - so really compares to a size 12 perle rather than the size 8 shown in the photo. DMC Perle 12 is 21 w/cm. If it was twisted more it would maybe measure 23 or 24 w/cm If it's silk measured by the denier system which is the weight in grams of 9000 metres. 1/2 oz = 14.174762gms 150 yards = 137.16 metres - if 3 ply = 411.48 metres (14.174762 / 411.48) x 9000 = 310.034 denier per ply Total 930 denier >From the other silk threads I've listed with sizes quoted in deniers I would >estimate that 930 denier would measure about 14-15 w/cm but could be a couple >more wraps if it's tightly twisted Brenda in Allhallows www.brendapaternoster.co.uk - To unsubscribe send email to majord...@arachne.com containing the line: unsubscribe lace y...@address.here.
