I believe most of the "funny marks" happen because the messages you are writing is in HTML or Rich Text.
List is in Plain Text. So when you message arrives at the Arachne List server, your characters are changed to plain text thus interpreting what you really wrote in HTML or Rich Text. It's interpretation always isn't exactly what you plan. If you want to control how you message looks, switch you message to Plain Text so you can see what is going out. Happy lacing.
