Hard to do with out a diagram! I'm giving it  a try though,

The 2 pin rose ground I am used to will have pins at number 3 & 6 in the layout below:

1   3   2

4        5

7   6   8


Stitches are worked at all numbers, but pins are placed only at 3 & 6.

It is up to you which stitch you work at which number - ct, ctc or ctct

Each stich will produce a roseground with a different appearance.

So, say you have chosen to work it all in half stitch,
then at 1 & 2, you will work ct - but not pin is placed
at 3 work ct pin ct
at 4 & 5 work ct - but not pin
at 6 work ct pin ct
at 7 & 8 work ct - but not pin
