As some of you may know I have been working on a piece of circular lace to go into my clock and am about a week away from finishing it. I got excited and got the clock down again trying to decide what cloth or paper colour to put behind the lace on completion to show it to its best advantage. I took it out of its sealed plastic covering for the first time since buying it in June at the lace day and imagine my horror to find it didn't have glass to cover my lace. I have been fretting over what on earth I could do with it, a friend telling me I should return the clock and buy another clock from a different supplier but the problem with that is size of the lace. This one is quite big at almost 10 inch diameter and the other clock like the one shown on Alex Stillwells geometric lace book is much smaller. We have been able to find a company who is going to try to cut an acrylic circle out to fit and also cut a hole in the centre to put the boss of the hands through (the hands will have to sit and turn outside of this clock rather than as you would expect it to be inside the clock.) In the end I found the suppliers card and have just been speaking to him by phone. He did say i could return it to him but if I do this I am left with a large piece of lace which wont transfer. Anyway I have told him how unhappy I am that there was nothing to tell me there was no glass on this one. So anyone in the UK beware of falling into this trap. He mentioned smaller ones he sells but I hadn't seen and that he has been selling the one I bought through a magazine with the cross stitch picture of birds around it to go into it. The magazine had asked for the bigger size and did understand there was no glass covering (which to me is madness), but I was not aware at all.
