I am engaged in a cataloguing project where I am supposed to come up with the
best term to describe a piece of lace. I have a lace that is like Valenciennes
de Gand, but instead of a plaited mesh background it has mesh of twisted pairs
that meet in a whole stitch. From a distance this looks like the part lace
Valenciennes de Gand that was popular in the mid 19th century (not to be
confused with continuous lace Valenciennes that was popular in the 18th
century).
Years ago I had a correspondence with Ghyslaine Maes (hope I spelled this
right) who was involved in the OIDFA conference in Ghent. She told me the name
of this kind of lace, but I cannot find the correspondence. I have looked in
all my books, but I am not having any luck. Can anyone help me out with this?
Here is a link to the lace, although the photo isn’t high def enough for you
to see the background mesh. The flowers have Duchesse type characteristics
such as raised and rolled work. There are also needle lace fillings in certain
areas such as the flower centers.

Help would be greatly appreciated.
