I have a suggestion for the transport of your pipes. This might be a good time to put a photo of the finished apparatus in your suitcase with the pipes. I sometimes do that with my wire because it looks like bomb making material to the TSA people, and try to keep a copy of the flier where I am taking a class or teaching so they can see what I am up to.
