Everyone, Yes I am phasing out my participation on Arachne.  I just will not
fight the battles with aol and gmail.  What I've been doing is bcc-ing Devon,
Sue Babbs and Lin Hudren (users of gmail) - all of whom complained they were
not getting what I wrote.  Now, I have learned that Kim Davis (who uses net)
is not getting my letters!  This is shocking to me, because I value the work
Kim does and am sometimes able to be of assistance to her in connection with
the volunteer work she does at The Lace Museum in Sunnyvale California.

When one of our very well-known lace leaders visited me for a week last
Summer, I asked her to look at how I manage my permanent aol files, and then
tell me if I should switch to gmail.  She advised against.  She has seen my
considerable paper files in the studio, slept in the library surrounded by
thousands of lace and embroidery books, is aware there are many periodicals
stored in what should be the guest bedroom, etc.  I am up to my ears in paper
copies, because so many of you have written about losing all your files to a
computer failure.  She knows a great deal about technology, and I trust her
judgement that I not go to gmail.

Please do not jump to the conclusion that I need another round of your advice.
Many of you have written in the past, and I have digested what you
recommended.  I am well-aware that you love your personal arrangements.  I
like my aol filing system and do not wish to devote more time to it, which a
switch to gmail would require.  Further, the computer guru at the Senior
Center near me supports aol.  But not gmail.

Imagine how much time is spent writing for you and doing searches and research
and then triple what you think that might be.  Please realize there are other
things that I have identified as being of importance to lace.  I do not see
many people eager to take on my self-designated role (I did offer to train
apprentices a few years ago, and found that within a month the people I'd
spent so much time getting prepped were drawn away by family problems. I do
not process excuses of "my teenager has gotten into trouble" very well.

Lin Hudren is definitely correct.  Because of disappointment in my ability to
rally others to communicate on lace topics, I am gradually drifting away from
Arachne.

Here are 2 topics someone might write about this week:  1) Some governments
are confiscating rosewood bobbins (as if they were as endangered as ivory) and
2) DMC and Anchor's phasing out of some lace making threads - in the U.K., but
maybe elsewhere, too?  I read about these yesterday on the home page of
www.nelg.us .

I have found over the past year that I do not get most of Jeri's
postings. I have found out about them when someone else replies, or when
Devon posts them, but do not get them when Jeri posts them. As I recall,
there was some sort of issue with this for many people which was discussed
a few months back. I also feel I must have missed something. I
sincerely hope that we are not loosing her.

Kim

I think I must have missed an email. How are we losing Jeri?
