Silk will yellow in the sun in an afternoon, as will angora (not that you make 
much lace with angora!). Prolonged exposure to the sun will yellow other 
threads, but it does have to be prolonged, as in day in day out sitting on a 
table in the sunlight for years.

I would have thought that the opposite effect would be had on thread - 
sunlight on natural fibres in white (cotton or linen) should not yellow 
threads, but should lighten them - might be a problem with ecru or cream and 
could be a problem with linen because of drying out rather than colour 
change.
