Morning All
I agree totally with both Bev and Annette. I had wanted to make lace
'since forever'. (An aunt used to make lace and promised to teach me,
however she passed away while I was still little...) A couple of
years ago I found a group around 30 miles away who met on a night I
couldn't make! (Being a Parish Councillor has its trials...) I meet
them at lace days once every few months, but as their first meeting
was 3 months after I met them, I got a book out of the library, and
'made myself a pillow.... (polystyrene 'wallpaper' cut into squares
and put in an old pillowcase...) I had a go at following the
instructions.... hmmmm, an awful piece of lace came off the pillow,
but at least I'd done it!
I went along to their next meeting and was shown properly, however the
classes were out for me. I was told about another group who had a
lace day the following month, and went along... To my surprise their
Chairman holds classes at her house!! Wonderful! This meant that I
could attend on the weeks when I did not have a meeting, and not feel
that I was missing out on lessons!! (Yes, I do still go...) Then I met
Agnes both on ebay and on this list... bought some bobbins from her
and as she only lives in the next village (it's all one village to
look at, but there's a distinct difference in population) and the
rest, as they say, is history.
This list has provided me with some wonderful friends. Margot, you
are at the top of the list!! (along with Agnes, & Sheila) Margot wrote
and told me about a friend of hers who was disposing of some lace
paraphenalia. Agnes & I drove down to meet Sheila & Alan (two others
who are on the aforementioned list). We've met others also on the
list.... Clay, your photo was 'fantastic'!!
All I can say is a HUGE thank you to all of you. Your never ending
supply of answers to any queries is brilliant! One never need to feel
as if you are the 'thicket' amongst the roses.... (My next project is
the rosalibre lace!!)
Cheers!!

Well said Bev
I've recently moved house from suburbia to the country and I am
going to
miss the small group of lacemakers who used to meet regularly at my
house.
At least with Arachne I get a daily dose of lace
conversation/chatter/questions and answers. It is a great list -
keep it up
folks.
