I agree with Diane that Practical Skills is a "must have"!! One of the
special things that happened in Rockford was that I found myself walking
beside Bridget Cook, and thanked her for her many excellent books! She
asked which ones I liked, and I honestly said, "All of them!", but I
added that "Practical Skills" was the one that was referred to, again
and again. She made the comment that the book had started out as her
own notes to herself when she was beginning to learn lace, and she later
realized that the information would be useful for lots of people!
Aren't we all fortunate that she took such excellent notes, and that she
was willing to share!!

I also see that there is an issue of Practical Skills in Bobbin Lace on ebay
right now. I don't have the item number (I'm at work) but I found it by
searching under either "lacemaker" or "lacemaking". This is an invaluable
book for any bobbin lacemaker.
Met with my "new" group of lacemakers last
night. We connected at the convention and discovered we are only 15 miles
apart. There were four of us making lace in Borders bookstore and some of the
public were quite interested.
I also did a demonstration on Saturday for a
historical society in Franklin Grove Illinois. It was a very laid back day,
not a lot of public attendance, but the weather was beautiful, I got 4 inches
of a Downton edging done and the participants were very interested in the
lace.

[lace] Excellent book on eBay
I quite agree with Clay. This is a wonderful
book; I've had mine for
many years. The price is right on eBay, but the cost
of shipping to the
USA is, to me, prohibitive. There again, if one wanted it,
the postage
can be factored into the cost of the book. Happy Lacemaking,Betty

Greetings, fellow lacemakers!
I've just
run across a book on eBay which I happen to own, and which
was
highly
recommended to me when I bought it. It is a very scholarly
history of lace,
published in 1979, written by Margaret Simeon. This
is
not an enormous
coffee-table book which will tax your limited space
for
books... but it
*is* one of the standards in lace history, often
quoted
by others.
ID #
is 360090393285. Price (right now) is right. It's a good book to
have.
