Dear Lacers, Lynne, who really should be posting this, gave me a flyer from Luton Museums advertising a new reprint of the Lace dealer's pattern book coming soon. (the leaflet says from April 2010). There isn't any information on their website yet. But the flyer offers contact details for interested parties (below). I know no more than this but thought I'd pass it on.
For those of you who don't know it: the Pattern book is about 40 pages of small samples of mostly Bucks but some Beds from the mid 19th century. It is thought to have been owned by a Northampton Dealer John Spencer, but it also may have come though Thomas Lester's firm. In 1994 The Museum launched an appeal to have the book restored and Arachnes were very active in raising funds. When the restoration was completed a book of pictures of the pages of samples was issued to accompany the exhibition. Talented people such as Kate Riley & Sally Barry have used this to develop patterns which they've published separately. The flyer promises a new updated and reformatted edition with more information about the samples. A DVD will accompany it.
