Thank you for your thoughts and messages - yes, we are at the
epicentre of the recent violent earthquakes.
There is no structural damage to our house, but chaos upstairs, which
we are leaving alone until the aftershocks subside. Currently we
have several strong aftershocks each day, and countless smaller
ones. We were without power (and therefore water) for about 11
hours, but the 'phone was OK, thank goodness.
Earthquakes (but not of this size) are relatively common in NZ, and
the authorities continually remind us to have water, radios, etc.
ready just in case... but this quake has turned out to be on a
previously unknown fault line, so has surprised a lot of people,
including the geophysicists! Christchurch city has suffered
tremendous damage, so we in the Darfield area are relatively lucky.
My lace pillow, with its latest project underway, was in place on its
stand - but turned 90 degrees on the stand as a result of the
earthquake! Luckily, all the bobbins were pinned in place under
elastic lace bands.
I'm sending out one message a day at the moment, and am way behind in
answering personal messages, but will write answers to all received
once I am brave enough to spend time upstairs! In the meantime,
thank you all -
Erica McLeod
