Pharaoh (or Pharoah) is a latin boy's name.  Might it not have been
marginally more common in the 19thC?  I would think it would more likely be
a person's name on the bobbin in this case rather than something more
cryptic.

Of all the hundreds of Family Trees I've investigated in the UK, I've never seen this as a Forename in the UK

In checking the 1851 census I find about 50 in the whole of the UK
David in Ballarat
