Based upon the usage that I have seen at my site so far, I am
inclined to say that group directed notices should not hit the
public timeline. Notices that are marked with a !group contain info
pertinant to that group and likely contain information N/A to the
general populace. People should be free to view group postings in
the group section, I just think that they clutter up the public feed
(and perhaps even one's personal feed).
I understand that this idea of preventing notices from hitting the
public feed may not jive with the usual public laconica
installation, but in my enterprise installation it makes sense. I'd
like to see what you all think about the matter, however, before I
diverge from vanilla laconica even more :)
Thanks.

Hmm…when I hear things like this, I have to wonder if the same logic
would apply to @-replies. They currently hit the public stream…but,
should they? Because *I* think they should, I also imagine that !-
notices directed at groups should also hit the public stream.
Otherwise…what's the point of the public stream?
Also, looking at the roadmap, I see that private groups are a planned
feature. I imagine that private group messages *won't* hit the public
stream, which makes sense by the same logic. Would private groups fill
your need, Mark, or is there another issue that I'm not able to see
quite yet?
