I realize that not everybody uses the same naming convention. So I propose rather than basing it off of the first inital, last name; it gets based off the first part of the email address. Everything before the @ symbol, I know that every system I have worked with the username and email address have been the same. The only issue I see with this approach is that email is not a required field. To work around this if email is not filled in the username field would be left blank or use the first name last name combo as it does now.
I think this would be a slightly more flexible way to do things and prevent me from doing stupid things like thinking I had ready fixed the username field to conform with our convention. Would this be possible to fix in an upcoming release?
