No problem. You could use the Belinix LiveCD for testing in the future.

In fact I wanted to know what the default cpu speed was on the X2 Turion
so I did the next best thing. Stole my own daughters Compaq 3000 which
has just about all the same specs as your Asus laptop and ran Belinix 0.5
livecd on it. And the default cpu speed booting battery or ac power is:
-----
Status of virtual processor 0 as of: 10/13/2006 19:05:01
  on-line since 10/13/2006 18:20:35.
The i386 processor operates at 1607 MHz,
and has an i387 compatible floating point processor.
Status of virtual processor 1 as of: 10/13/2006 19:05:01
  on-line since 10/13/2006 18:21:01.

Some dual core AMD laptops boot from the lowest cpu speed and
an external program must ramp up the clock. By the way
I didn't see anything flakey while running the machine. In fact
for a 700.00 laptop it wasn't bad. I couldn't test the audio as
none of the /kernel/drv/audio* drivers where in the belinix which was
kind of strange. I didn't bother with the Broadcom ndis wasn't worth
the hassle. Just for grins I did save the output of smbios, scanpci etc etc
in http://www.fiver.net/misc/compaq3000 for furture reference. I also
didn't test the Nvidia drivers on it but assume it was going to
work as they where the same model as the Asus you quoted.
