I actually had a similar problem (not the same hardware, but with wificonfig's 
user interface).

When I created a wificonfig profile, I put in my WEP key and set the auth 
correctly and so on, but I couldn't get it to connect.  It also wasn't showing 
up in scan, but I didn't actually think that was a problem because scan never 
showed more than 1 or 2 networks, when windows would show 17 or so (I live in 
an apartment building).

If I just created the profile with the correct ESSID and WEP key, I could then 
connect with inetmenu even though wificonfig was failing.
