I have the same problem on a Panasonic Toughbook CF-29. The keyboard backlight brightness, screen brightness and touchscreen do not work after the kernel loads. They all work fine if I use Windows XP from Panasonic, which I think includes drivers for this specific hardware.
At the moment I have a support case open with Sun for this problem using Solaris 10. They list my laptop is HCL certified without any mention of this problem. A couple of days ago a Sun support engineer contacted me about this and mentioned that he thought these issues could be resolved through configuration setting(s) changes in the Xorg conf file and that he would get back to me after researching this. If this gets resolved, I will get back to you with details on how we resolved it, which may be helpful for you. -Stuart Dr. David Kirkby wrote: > I've got a Sony VGN-SZ4XWN/C laptop: > > http://vaio.sony.co.uk/view/ShowProduct.action?product=VGN-SZ4XWN%2FC&productFilters=retired&site=voe_en_GB_cons&pageType=Overview&category=VN+SZ+Series > > running Solaris Express build 94.
