Hello.

Many laptops have so-called soft modems. These are more or less just a third
output channel and input channel of the sound card and a few extra
functionality (e.g. hook relay simulation or ring detection). Most AC'97 based
chipsets have such a modem.

The actual data transfer is done by "calculating" the "sound" that the modem
would produce and sending it over the telephone line. The sound coming through
the line is interpreted to get the data.

a) Do drivers for such devices exist ?
b) If no: Is anyone interested in joining developing a driver software for soft
modems under Solaris?
