>> or for which only closed source drivers (cf Linuxant) exist. Hello.
There is an open-source software (in fact there are two ones) that can do PPP over a softmodem. However these programs require softmodem access (a special /dev/audio device for the softmodem with special ioctls for pick up, hang up, ring detection or pulse dialing). I was thinking about writing such a special "/dev/audio" driver for the AC'97 softmodem for the VIA chipset. This would allow writing an answering machine software even without knowing anything about modulation. It would also allow porting the open-source PPP software from Linux to Solaris.
