Just fiddling around, and it appears that the problem *is* Xorg.... this, from
an ssh into the laptop whilst it's 'unconscious'...
root at shirele:~# ps -edf|grep -i xorg
john 676 672 0 08:57:35 ? 0:38 /usr/X11/bin/Xorg :0 -depth
24 -nolisten tcp -audit 0 -br -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0
root 3326 3315 0 10:29:40 pts/3 0:00 grep -i xorg
I try a kill -1 on that, to no avail. I then do a kill -9 and the laptop
springs into life, and I'm presented with the login screen. And ...
root at shirele:~# ps -edf|grep -i xorg
john 3342 3341 0 10:29:53 ? 0:06 /usr/X11/bin/Xorg :0 -depth
24 -nolisten tcp -audit 0 -br -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0
root 3536 3315 0 10:34:36 pts/3 0:00 grep -i xorg
This is OK, but I can't keep sshing into that laptop, and killing XOrg.
Indeed, when I'm away from home, I won't be able to do so.
Help !!
