I have not checked JIRA, but I do recall that there were some bugs  
against whitespace handling depenind on where the data came from.   
That was why proxided and solo apps  handled whitespace differently.   
I think some of those bugs were fixed, but maybe some remain.

I suggest consulting the bug database for whitespace bugs and  
workaorounds.
