Speaking as a Laszlo developer who had to maintain krank -- the reason for dropping krank support was that it cost a lot of time to maintain it (and QA time to test it at each release). It is some of the most intricate and complicated code in the system, and we just don't have enough core platform developer cycles to maintain that and also do the necessary work for the upcoming new runtimes.

We measured some test cases on the Flash 9 virtual machine  and saw an increase of 5 to 10x on some "realistic" test cases we measured (inner loops, function calls), so the performance boost from moving apps to that runtime should be significant.

And remember, krank only improves app startup time, it does nothing for runtime performance.

Unfortunately I just read about the unsupported future of Kranking.
Could someone give me an idea of why?  It has a HUGE effect on our
application and allows people with slow computers and a DSL connection
able to use the application without those "script running slow" errors.

newer versions have increased performance to the point where it does not
merit this tool.  For the record I disagree and I feel like I just got
kicked in the stomach as a loyal Laszlo Developer.

Subject: Re: [Laszlo-user] Solo Kranked App

I'm not sure what the status of krank in Open Laszlo 3.1.1 is, but I
know it's not part of 3.2cr1 anymore.
Get 3.2cr1 from http://www.openlaszlo.org/download/ then do solo
deployment using the solo deploy button in the development console.
