I recently watched the keynote I'd recommend all to see it at

perhaps answer. Will webtop be ported to the dhtml runtime ?

Webtop is being ported to lps4.x. As a `power user` we hope it will help to shake out bugs in lps 4 for both runtimes. The OpenLaszlo team is working closely with the WebTop team to make this happen.

This would
really improve the dhtml performance, and bring some nice well tested
components. I'm not talking about releasing the apps, but I believe for the quality of webtop and laszlo the components could be released open source, like you did with laszlomail (the texteditor component for example). and tested by the community as well. As well as development methodologies, and data manipulation things and good examples of professional openlaszlo usage. These could give developers some good base to start with, because I believe
there are many ways to do things but good, professional examples help.

I can't comment officially on this part of your question, perhaps someone from Laszlo will. But, it makes sense that 'substrate' will move into the platform as the project evolves. This seems to be a natural progression for open source based products.
