The fact that no equations appear is not a known problem.
On the other hand, symbols in recent versions of Word are highly
erratic. Microsoft has changed the conversion of RTF to DOC
repeatedly. I have not found a reliable method encoding symbols into
RTF documents and this is the primary reason that there has not been a
new release for so long.

with regards to this i sent it as an rtf file without saving in
word. Though my computer recognised it as a
word file. I have opened it in word to check, I don't know if this
would affect the file ?(this would seem unlikely especially as my
word version is read only).
