Another workaround I just found is this. After the drive begins to
search the disc, eject it and then reinsert it in the drive. The system
then seems to find it. Sometimes this has to be done with both device
driver disc 1 and disc 2.

Well I got my upgrade completed this morning.
The workaround to the hang up is...
When the prompt for Device Driver Disc 2 comes up is to put in the name
of
the Disc.
D:\DCD-May04-2...
Normally the installer is just looking for D:
Disc 1 doesn't have the information it wants so it searches forever...
This will allow you to insert the correct Disc.!?
Or you can do what NI says and copy the whole package to your hard drive
then do the install.

Thanks to everyone that replied!

I've had problems when installing NI driver discs on a PXI chassis
(Win2K) using a USB cd drive. It seems the windows autoplay feature
causes problems, though I've never been not able to open the drive.
Usually after I swap CDs, the installation just hangs and I have to
eject the CD, then close it again while holding the Shift key down.
Holding the Shift key while inserting a CD temporarily disables the
autoplay feature and the installer then finds the new CD and continues.

Not exactly the problem you're having, but it might be worth checking.

Well I finally got my 7.1 upgrade!
Thanks to NI's mix up mine finally got here.
I tried upgrading yesterday and was unable to complete the task!? When
the installer got to insert Driver Disc 2 my CD never turned off, and
the eject button or eject click wouldn't work! Has any one else had this
problem? NI acted like they'd never heard of it! I still have an open
service number with NI, but have been too busy today to attempt another
upgrade... I finally gave up and CTRL-ALT-DEL!?... I'm running XP
SP1a...
