Dear lcms list,

For those of you interested in such things, I've uploaded into CVS
latest lcms sources implementing a new cool feature:

That is black preservation.

Black preservation deals with CMYK -> CMYK transforms, and is intended to preserve, as much as possible, the black (K) channel whilst matching color by using CMY inks. There is a tradeoff between accuracy and black preservation, so you lost some accuracy in order to preserve the original separation. Not to be a big problem in most cases, benefits of keeping K channel are huge!

Since this feature would be of interest to many of you, I would like to do a call for testing. If anybody is interested, please give it a try. In order to make things easier, I've also uploaded a precompiled binary for tifficc here: http://www.littlecms.com/tifficc_bp.exe

The toggle to activate black preservation in tifficc is -f and it only works with precalculation (the default)

In the CMM, you can turn on black preservation by using the flag
cmsFLAGS_PRESERVEBLACK. This is taken only as suggestion
and the CMM can revert to normal linking if the profiles are not proper.

The new sources are not complete, since they still misses some code for other new features, so, Please note this is NOT a new revision. Please don't package, Please don't redistribute it. The 1.15 revision would hopefully be released on summer's end.
Having said that, I would thank very much any feedback.
I strongly believe this will be a big milestone in the next revision, so checking it carefully would be a nice way to assess overall CMM quality.

Best regards,
