If you create a split pci-e configuration, make sure you account for redundant NIC's, HBA's, and boot storage. It might make sense to boot off of the SAN. Otherwise, you'd have to attach a JBOD for full redundancy or monkey about with the internal SAS drives with an add-on SAS controller.
Ideally, there should be a second SAS controller on the other PCI-E controller and the SAS back-plane should be split to allow dual controllers. Unfortunately, that is not the case. -- This message was posted from opensolaris.org
