Hah.  I don't believe there is a single OS that out of the box knows
that *.lrp is a tar + gzip archive - well, except LRP that is. 
Double-click on that *.lrp file in the Windows Explorer and see what
happens....

No - same thing as above - excepting the fact that bunzip2 support is
much rarer than tar/gzip support.  To repeat: there isn't an OS in
existance today (that I know of) that straight out of the box would
recognize a *.tbz file as a tar + bzip2 file.

That's not what I mean; what I mean is that the "format" should be
completely standard (which it is).  Many people create these fancy
format files - like RPM databases for example.

I think my thinking extends further than I've mentioned - that is, all
these files specially for LRP are *TEXT* files too - no funny
databases, no extra support required, no nothing - just text.
