That would do it and it's probably the quickest, neatest way to do achieve what you want. That might work too, but I don't think I'd go this way. It seems pretty much universal for eth0 to be the external interface on LEAF. There's nothing wrong with changing that per se, but I reckon it could confuse matters later.
