If you just typed "lcdd" at the command prompt, this isn't too
suprising.  IIRC, you need to pass lcdd a fair number of command line
switches for it to work properly, typically including switches that get
passed along to the driver code.  Also remember once you run lcdd, you
still have to run lcdproc (or other client) to get anything to actually
show up on the LCD.

See the documentation provided with lcdproc for details (likely not in
the lrp package...you might have to find it elsewhere on the web).
