If you add lcd.lrp to the syslinux.cfg as I stated earlier,
then enter lrcfg, go to package config, you have two choices
for lcd:

init script, where you configure starting parameters for
the server 'lcdd' and the client 'lcdproc'

lcdd.conf, where you configure the driver, port and other
        stuff.

I know, documentation is lacking, but I had NO time to
write proper docs.
OTOH, the lcdproc website is also VERY poor on proper docs.
They even disagree on some issues themselves!

If you go to the http://www.lcdproc.org/ website look for docs,
the version I've repacked is from the stable tree 0.4.3 and I have
compiled support for the HD44780 paralell port dsiplay only.
No support for any other type of driver included.

If you still have problems, report here.

Please include your changes that you've made to the original config.

If you just typed "lcdd" at the command prompt, this isn't too
suprising. IIRC, you need to pass lcdd a fair number of command line
switches for it to work properly, typically including switches that get
passed along to the driver code. Also remember once you run lcdd, you
still have to run lcdproc (or other client) to get anything to actually
show up on the LCD.

See the documentation provided with lcdproc for details (likely not in
the lrp package...you might have to find it elsewhere on the web).
